I don't know about you, but sometimes it really doesn't take much to make me happy.
Having my morning coffee on the sofa while it's slowly getting light outside. A rainy day when I don't have any plans anyway. Or finding a little time to make earrings after a day at the office.
It's often the simplest things that I look forward to the most.
Since starting Sunday Belles, a few more things have made it onto that list. Like that little rush of excitement whenever a new order comes in. I honestly don't think I'll ever get used to it. Or when someone sends me a photo of themselves wearing my earrings or one of my scrunchies. Sometimes it's simply a lovely comment on a post that arrives at just the right moment.
But something that makes me just as happy is the making itself. For me, it's a way to slow down, switch off and relax.
I could spend hours playing around with tiny details, mixing different colours of polymer clay or trying to bring some random idea to life that popped into my head out of nowhere. And sometimes I do wonder why I insist on making things so complicated for myself 😂
My latest little ghosts are the perfect example.
Originally, I just wanted to make a few more tiny ghost earrings for Halloween. Nothing too fancy. But then I had the idea that one of them could hold a little toadstool. And if one ghost can hold a mushroom, why shouldn't another one have a donut? Fast forward a little, and now there are ghosts holding cookies, cupcakes, popcorn and pancakes.
And you know what? That's exactly the kind of thing I love about running my little business.
I don't have to plan every single idea down to the last detail. Sometimes I can just experiment, see where things go and come up with three more ideas along the way. Of course, not everything works out on the first try. Some creations end up back on my worktable, get taken apart or turn out completely different from what I originally imagined.
But when I finally have a tiny ghost holding a cupcake sitting in front of me, I usually can't help smiling. Does a ghost really need a cupcake? Probably not. But somehow, he'd only be half as funny without it.
Maybe all of this sounds a little silly. After all, we're talking about earrings here. But I think there are already enough things in everyday life that have to be serious, sensible and necessary. Surely there's room for a few things that exist simply because they make us happy.
I love the thought of someone standing in front of their mirror in the morning, picking out a pair of my earrings and maybe smiling to themselves for a second. Or someone opening a Sunday Belles package and noticing all the little details I added while wrapping it. I think it's those tiny moments that can make an otherwise ordinary day feel just a little bit nicer.
If you haven't met my little ghost gang yet, you can have a look at them here. Maybe you'll find one who loves snacks just as much as you do. Personally, I think they've all got pretty good taste 🧁
Anyway, I hope your day is filled with lots of little things that make you smile! 🧡
